The South Bay’s largest chamber of commerce recently concluded an investigation into a racist attack ad that was posted on its website.
However, they have been reluctant to provide specific details about how the ad ended up on the site and who was responsible for it. The preliminary findings revealed no evidence of intent to post racist material or stoke racial divisions but highlighted a lack of communication and breakdown in the approval process.
Former CEO Matt Mahood resigned after the ad was taken down, and community leaders have called for board members and leadership to step down. Darlene Tenes, a longtime member, has agreed to serve on the newly formed diversity and inclusion advisory committee. Let’s hope that positive steps are taken to address this issue and promote understanding within the community.
